Sixth form curriculum

We work in partnership with local sixth forms as part of the Oaks Sixth Form Collegiate (www.oaks6thform.co.uk), meaning that students can access a wide range of subjects delivered across the sites.

Subjects currently based at Shenley Academy for 2017/18 include:

Year 12

  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care (Extended Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma)
  • OCR National Level 3 ICT (CTID)
  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Sport – (Extended Certificate)
  • QCF BTEC Level 3 Sport – (Extended Diploma at the Birmingham City FC Football Development and Education programme)
  • GCSE English
  • GCSE Mathematics

Year 13

  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Art – (Extended Certificate)
  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Applied Science (Extended Certificate and Diploma)
  • OCR National Level 3 Business (CTID)
  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Dance – (Extended Certificate)
  • NQF BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care (Extended Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma)
  • OCR National Level 3 ICT (CTID)

In addition, a range of subject offered at Oaks Sixth Form sites include A Levels in Art, Drama, English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Psychology along with Level 3 qualifications in Applied Science, Travel and Tourism and Creative Media Production.

The 16-19 study programme includes:

  • Substantial level 3 qualification(s) which may be academic, applied general or a combination of these to meet required learning aims
  • A thorough tutorial and immersion programme delivered through twice weekly sessions and additional off timetable days
  • Work experience
  • Careers information advice and guidance
  • Other meaningful activity for example mentoring, leadership award and volunteering
  • GCSE English and Mathematics for students without a grade C/4 in these qualifications, although meeting these is now normally an entry requirement for level 3 study.
