First Lego League

7 February 2019

On Tuesday 18th December 2018 six Year 7 students,  accompanied by Maths Teacher Mr Linton, represented Shenley Academy Maths Faculty at a Lego Tournament which was held at University of Birmingham School of Engineering.

The students who attended were:

Martin Aldenhoven

Callum Caulee

Isaac Chadderton

Paige Evans

Roman Smith

Paige Wyers

Prior to the event, the students had all been regularly attending Maths Lego Club after school each week to build and programme a range of Space themed Lego structures.  Computer coding was used to programme some of pieces created – which were then displayed and mobility demonstrated to the judges at the tournament.

During additional events on the day, students were also set new Lego challenges; testing their research and problem analysis skills, in order to find innovative and creative ways to solve a variety of tasks.

The Shenley Academy team were praised for their team work, planning and original solutions to tasks and were also commended for their creativity and presentation skills on the day.

The Year 7 students involved all enjoyed their day and were very pleased to each be awarded a Silver Medal for achieving second place runners up in the tournament competition and were also awarded  a very impressive Lego Cup trophy for Best Newcomers at the tournament  (the trophy being made completely of Lego of course!!)

Well done to Martin, Callum, Isaac, Paige, Roman and Paige for all their effort and attendance at Maths Lego club and for their fantastic achievements at the tournament – where they demonstrated what a credit they are to Shenley Academy.
