Exceptional GCSE results for Shenley Academy Y11 students

4 September 2017

In a year when new GCSE grades in English and maths have led to uncertainty Shenley Academy students have continued to achieve exceptional results. Students have excelled in all subjects, but particular congratulations go to:

  • Jack Brayshaw: for achieving 2 grade 9’s, 4 A*’s, 2 distinction*’s, 3 A’s and a 7
  • Sarwat Farooqi: for achieving 3 grade 8’s, 2 A* grades, 3 distinction*’s and 3 A grades
  • Connie Kozakiewicz: for achieving a grade 9, 2 grade 8’s, 2 A*’s, 4 A grades and 2 distinction*’s
  • Ahmed Elsaid: for achieving a grade 9, a grade 8 and a grade 7; 3 A* grades, 2 A grades, 1 B grade and 2 distinction*’s
  • Alasdair Irvine: for achieving 2 grade 8’s and a grade 7; 2 A* grades, 4 A grades, a B grade and 2 distinction*’s

This year is the first year that students have been graded using the new 9 to 1 grades. The ‘standard’ pass for students is a grade 4 and more Shenley students than ever before achieved the good basics combination of achieving a grade 4 in both GCSE English and maths. 53% of Shenley students achieved this measure, and this means that they are well placed to take up further study in our sixth form, at other local colleges or start an apprenticeship. 100% of Shenley students have a chosen pathway to start in September, which is testament to the combination of great careers advice and guidance as well as a broad and balanced curriculum.

Lucy Monk, Principal, commented on today’s GCSE results:

“The class of 2017 have demonstrated that hard work and commitment to studies reaps rewards. Congratulations are due to each and every student for their wonderful outcomes and I wish them every success as they move into our sixth form, or other colleges and apprenticeships!”
